Reading an archangel chart

Archangels appear in Jewish, Christian and Islamic tradition as senior messengers of God. Only a few are named in scripture: Michael, Gabriel and Raphael are the best known, others such as Uriel and Raguel come from texts like the Book of Enoch, and many of the rest come from modern angel-oracle traditions. That is why lists of archangels differ from book to book, and why this chart is best read as a modern guidance chart rather than a religious reference.

People use an archangel chart in different ways: as a prompt for prayer or meditation, as a way to put a name to what they need help with, or as a daily-guidance habit. The pendulum choosing a section does not predict anything. It points you to a theme worth spending a few minutes with.

How to use this archangel chart

  1. Decide what you need guidance on and phrase it as a need rather than a prediction, for example “protection while I travel”.
  2. Hold the pendulum over the centre, take a few slow breaths and, if it fits your practice, say a short invitation or prayer.
  3. Ask: “Which archangel can best support me with this?” and let the pendulum settle on a section.
  4. Read the name and theme, then give it a moment: read about that archangel, light a candle or write a few lines in a journal.
  5. Come back another day with a fresh question. Asking the same question again and again tends to blur the answer.

Frequently asked questions

How many archangels are there?

It depends on the tradition. The Book of Enoch names seven (Uriel, Raphael, Raguel, Michael, Saraqael, Gabriel and Remiel), Islamic tradition names four prominent angels, and modern angel-oracle systems list a dozen or more. This chart uses twelve.

Do I need to be religious to use it?

No. Some people use it as prayer, others as a symbolic prompt for reflection. You can rename any section to match your own beliefs.
